Riding the Mustang

Riding over to Workington in the rain with the wipers hypnotising and me, forgetting how to turn the headlights on, not having driven for a while and you there, somewhere out towards the sea riding your mustang waving one hand to what passes for God and me, here in the car and in the rain passing Bassenthwaite Lake, overtaking a Reality van, one eye in the mirror for fast cars on the outside lane swerving round that bad bend where a lorry needs all the road and you have to breathe in

and somewhere out to the west the sea and those many white arms waving in manic energy and me here in the car wondering how it would be to ride a mustang and you, saying from somewhere far away, yet near, let's find out.
