The BBC website contains over half a million pages of news, entertainment and factual material. There's also a wealth of educational programmes available across the BBC's TV and radio channels.

The BBC Bus weighs 9 tonnes, is 3m wide, 4m high and 11m long. It has a 17 m swing.

There are 5 PCs and an Apple Mac on board the BBC Bus, as well as a digital camera, a scanner, 2 printers, a digital camcorder and a fantastic 42 " plasma screen.

The front of the bus is a fully kitted out broadcasting studio.

There is ramp access onto the bus, a special keyboard available for people with visual impairments and screen reading equipment.

The latest technology

Want to learn how to surf the internet, use a digital camera, edit videos on your PC or make your own website?

Then welcome to the BBC Bus, a free local service which is there to teach you everything you ever wanted to know about IT ... or show you where you can find out.

The bus is aimed at people 16 years old and above ... children are welcome on board if accompanied by an adult.

All you have to do is check out when the bus is coming to a venue near you, hop on board and one of our friendly tutors will get you started.

We can offer a range of introductory sessions to get you started:

•How to use the internet
•Making your own website
•Using a digital camera
•Changing digital photos on your PC
•Using a mini DV camera to shoot video
•Editing videos on your PC
•Digital music making
•Editing sound on your PC
•Word processing on your PC

If it's not on the list, ask us and we'll see what we can do to help you.

Broadcasting on the BBC Bus

The BBC Bus is also a fully equipped broadcast studio, capable of broadcasting via phone lines or ISDN.

BBC Radio Cumbria can broadcast full programmes from on board the bus, or use it as a mobile district studio and base for guests.

There are two journalists on the BBC Bus and they are equipped to record items for the radio and edit them on board the bus.

If you'd like a tour of the broadcast area, please ask a member of the BBC Bus team and they'll be happy to oblige.
