What's happening on Star Trek Night?


Star Trek Night - 16th September, 7.30 pm, BBC2.

19:30 - STAR TREK NIGHT
Hosted by Jonathan Ross. BBC2 celebrates the 35th anniversary of Star Trek with an evening that includes classic episodes, interviews with key actors, behind the scenes footage, memorable moments and a Star Trek feature film. There’s also and the chance to vote for a Star Trek Captain’s favourite episode to be shown later in the night.

19:35 - FROM ENTERPRISE TO FRANCHISE
How did the legendary Star Trek grow from a mid-60’s cult US TV series to a 35 year old, world famous, multi-billion dollar franchise of over 600 episodes, 9 feature films and an ever growing army of fans? Star Trek actors, writes and producers help explain the phenomenon.

20:10 - MAKE IT SO
Rubber aliens, mini-skirts and home-made special effects are what we really remember from 35 years of Star Trek. The programme goes behind the scenes to ask just how the tricks are done and commemorates photon torpedoes, tricorders and the 24th century bra.

20:40 - STAR TREK: DEEP SPACE 9: TRIALS AND TRIBBLE-ATIONS
A Klingon on board the Defiant makes use of a Bajoran orb of time to go a hundred years into the past. His mission is to change history - even if it means killing Captain James T. Kirk of the starship Enterprise. In pursuit of the vengeful Klingon an awestruck Away Team are forced to try to blend into the crew of the Enterprise at a moment of destiny as Lieutenant Uhura acquires a cute, cuddly, cooing creature known as a tribble.

21:20 - THE WARP FACTORY
From the phasers, transporters and warp engines of the original series to the plasma conduits and microfusion initiators of 24th century Starfleet, Star Trek writers have plundered all their best ideas from science. Having created four ever more advanced space-ships - where is there left for Star Trek to go?

22:40 - FILM: STAR TREK IV: VOYAGE HOME
When returning to Earth to stand trial, the crew of the Enterprise receive a distress signal urging them not to come closer. A mysterious probe is vaporising all the power on Earth and its people are in grave danger. Spock analyses the signal and discovers that the only creature that could answer the probe would be a humpback whale, but they've been extinct for centuries …..
