The Simpsons | Episode Guide | Season Five
Lisa vs. Malibu Stacy

Lisa takes girl power to the toy store.

Episode 1F12
Written by Bill Oakley and Josh Weinstein
Directed by Jeffrey Lynch
Also starring: Maggie Roswell, Pamela Hayden
Special guest voice: Kathleen Turner (as Stacy Lovell)

Premise: Lisa buys a talking Malibu Stacy, only to discover it's saying things like 'Don't ask me, I'm just a girl' and 'I wish they taught shopping at school'. After tracking down Malibu Stacy's creator, she creates a radical rival - Lisa Lionheart. But when it's big business versus a little girl, guess who'll win...

Features: Grampa, Dr Hibbert, Mrs Hibbert, Jasper, Smithers, Krusty, Kent Brockman, Hans Moleman.

Couch: The Simpsons are crushed by a Monty Python foot.

  • Stacy Lovell's list of husbands is fabulously surreal, featuring Ken, Johnny, GI Joe, Doctor Colossus and Steve Austin.
  • Among the Malibu Stacys available to buy are: Achy-Breaky Stacy, Live from the Improv Stacy, Talking Malibu Stacy and Malibu Stacy with a New Hat!

Notes for the Uneducated: Gertrude Stein was a feminist intellectual and author in the 1930s. Lisa's other inspirations include feminist cartoonist Cathy Guisewite.

Look out for: Lisa's comments about how awful she'd feel if people put out bad merchandise with her name on it.

Notes: Lisa at her crusading best, Homer at his stupidest and Grampa getting all the best lines again, especially at Krusty Burgers. Kathleen Turner's spot as the real Malibu Stacy is superb.
