The Andromeda Strain

Ridley Scott to adapt Michael Crichton novel for Sci Fi.

Gladiator and Blade Runner director Scott will produce a new four-hour mini-series, based on Crichton's bestseller about the race to stop an alien virus for the US Sci Fi Channel. The adaptation is being written by Robert Schenkkan (The Quiet American).

The novel has been filmed before, by Robert 'The Sound of Music Wise' in 1971. Back then it had the tagline "The picture runs 130 minutes! The story covers 96 of the most critical hours in man's history! The suspense will last through your lifetime!"

A four-hour miniseries remake of The Thing, about an Antarctic expedition that discovers a shapeshifting alien, is also in development for the channel.
