Cloth cats and Clangers

Oliver Postgate talks to BBC Five Live.

With Thunderbirds at the multiplexes and The Magic Roundabout on the way, BBC Five Live took the opportunity to quiz Oliver Postgate, creator of The Clangers and Bagpuss, about children's television.

As well as talking about his own creations, Oliver revealed that he turned down the offer to provide the voices for The Magic Roundabout, because he didn't feel he could translate the original, very wordy, French scripts to fit the episode duration imposed.

Oliver also gave his opinions on programmes on air today, saying that a decent script is the key. He also admitted to being terrified by the Teletubbies, which seemed to him like a cross between Kafka and George Orwell!
