Klingons take Cannes

Documentary about Klingon-speakers to premiere at Cannes.

Titled Earthlings: Ugly Bags of Mostly Water, the documentary captures the lives, passions and quirks of members of the Klingon Language Institute during their annual qep'a (or conference, for you non-Klingon speakers).

KLI members featured in the film include Dr d'Armond Speers, a linguist who spoke only in Klingon to his son until age three and a half, and Rich Yampbell, composer of Klingon national anthem taHaj wo.

Shot in a "science fiction-like" style by Director Alexandre O Phillipppe, the documentary aims to show the interplay between culture and language, communication and emotion, and the rather delicate line between reality and fiction.

Whether he succeeds remains to be seen, but having seen the trailer, I can confirm that the documentary does include at least one beareded man in a Klingon forehead-mask.

The seventy-minute film will debut at Cannes Film Market this May. Meanwhile, in other Trek film news, homage to Trek fans Trekkies 2 was premiered at Paramount in LA on April 14th. The audience included fans and Trek stars Denise Crosby (Tasha Yar), Dominic Keating (Malcolm Reed) and Casey Biggs (Damar).

Oh, and there's a Save Enterprise campaign started. Good luck!
