Brendan Baxter is a television producer, who will apparently stop at nothing to create a hit show.
When we first meet Brendan he has recently married Carla, a former theatrical agent who Jonathan first met when they both drawn into investigating the murder of actress Vivian Brodie.
Under his guidance, Carla has become a television presenter, working on his hit real-life crime programme, Eyes and Ears.
Unaware that Jonathan and Carla have met before, or indeed that Carla loathes him, Brendan invites Jonathan onto his over-sensationalised true crime show to advise on a series of perplexing murders.
Trusting and caring, Brendan is happy to let his wife get up close and personal with Jonathan - especially if that polls well with his key demographic.
