The Puzzle:
Frank Geiger, a man of 'pure evil', is killed by his co-conspirators on a stormy night as he plots a drugs deal in the cellar of a remote, riverside farmhouse. When Geiger's corpse is discovered three months later, it has somehow climbed to the top of the cellar stairs - despite having received six bullets to its head.

Harry Peacock, the man who killed Gieger, is terrified. He refuses to co-operate with the police to reveal the name of Geiger's contact abroad, for fear that the dead man has supernatural powers, and will kill him from beyond the grave. A note with the contact details, left in Geigeršs pocket is of no help either - it's now mysteriously blank.

Can Sir Dennis Compton help Jonathan Creek provide an explanation for Geiger's seemingly superhuman powers? And can his skill with a pack of cards save Maddy's life? [Solution]

Five quick questions to test your knowledge of the episode.
Alan Davies
"We were up in the Peak District filming the episode with John Bird in, one of our many fantastic coppers. David writes such great coppers - we had Brian Murphy [as one] in season two - it would be a great police force if you put everybody together... We've had some great funny coppers.

"Coming home from there, Caroline went into labour, and we hadn't yet finished shooting. It was all a bit of a carry-on, but fortunately she was fine, the baby was fine, the programme was fine and everything was fine."

Owzat?:
Dennis Compton, whose cigarette card helped Jonathan solve the puzzle, was one of England's greatest cricketers. He played for the national team between 1937 and 1957, scoring 123 centuries and taking 622 wickets during his professional career. He also played football for Arsenal and England, became the original Brylcreem Boy and was awarded a CBE. He died in 1997 at the age of 78.
The Solution: (point your mouse over the space below)
Solution: Geiger's corpse didn't climb the stairs it floated to the top of them. The farmhouse was situated in a valley prone to flooding, and when the nearby river burst its banks during the storm, the farmhouse cellar was soon submerged.

The water loosened cigarette cards of three famous cricketers from their album, one of which floated up with Geiger's body. The water also washed away the ink from the note in his pocket.
