RealMedia: Porridge Titles

Porridge

Habitual criminal Norman Stanley Fletcher (Ronnie Barker) accepts his incarceration as an occupational hazard.

He’s sentenced to prison for five years and shares a cell with first-time offender Lennie Godber (Richard Beckinsale). He unintentionally becomes a father-figure to the naive Birmingham lad.

The series grew out of a play called Prisoner Escort, from the Seven Of One Ronnie Barker anthology in 1973. The series was apparently popular in jails around Britain and was even made into a feature- length film in 1979.
