Confused? We're here to help:
The Treasure hunt is now over. For the record, the original competiton FAQs were as follows:
Q: What do I win?
A: The Crown of Charlemagne - the mystical artefact that features in Ghosts of Albion - by solving puzzles. It's covered in gold and is currently worth around £2,000.
Q: So, how do I win the crown?
A: First you need to win a VIP Pass to the Ghosts of Albion Event. It's being held at the Prince Charles Cinema, London, on 18 December 2004, between 1-3pm. As well as the finalé of the treasure hunt, you'll be able to see Ghosts of Albion on the big screen and meet many of the cast and crew. There are 300 VIP Passes to win, and you won't be able to get in without one.
Q: I want to win a pass, then. Tell me how.
A: There are two ways.
Solve the day's clue first. A new puzzle will be set on the Ghosts of Albion website each weekday between 1 November and 3 December. If you think you know the answer, rush over to the messageboard and post as fast as you can. A new message thread will be set up by us each day to receive answers. It's really straightforward.
The other way is to play a Ghosts of Albion Puzzle Trail at one of our five participating museums. All you need to do is go to the museum, pick up a form, and solve ten puzzles based on their more bizarre exhibits. Entry to these museums is free.
If you get all the answers on the sheet correct, you'll win a VIP Pass there and then. A piece of the crown will be on display at each museum.
Q: Which five museums are taking part in the puzzle trail?
A: There will be a different museum revealed each week - but only if you have been collecting the daily puzzle answers for that week. For example, to find out where to go in week one, simply enter the answers to each daily puzzle in week one into the boxes on the Ghosts of Albion Homepage. Monday's answer in the Monday box... you get the idea. Obviously, you won't be able to do this bit until the Friday puzzle has been solved!
Once all the answers have been entered, hit the "Unlock Answer" button and the location of the museum will be revealed.
Q: I've entered my answers but the museum info didn't come up. Help!
A: You may have got some answers wrong or not filled in all five boxes. When you hit the "Unlock Answer"" button, the results screen should tell you which answers are correct, and which are wrong or incomplete. Simply have another go until you get all the right answers. If you're stuck, check out the message boards to see if your answers match those from other players. Watch out for red herrings though - demons often stalk the boards with misleading answers!
Q: I have won a ticket! What happens next?
A: Come along to the Ghosts of Albion Event with your VIP Pass. You won't be able to get in without it. After the screening and Q & A session with the cast, Chris Maslanka, the UK's top enigmatologist, will challenge the audience to find the ultimate winner of the Crown by a process of elimination. There'll be runner-up prizes of DVDs, signed posters and other goodies.
Q: Can I bring a friend?
A: Sadly not - we just don't have the capacity. Winners under the age of 16 should be accompanied by an adult, however. Please email us no later than 14 December 2004 at if this applies to you or if you have any special needs that require you to be accompanied on the day. Put "Ghosts Treasure Hunt" as the subject of your email.
Q: Will you pay my travel and accommodation expenses?
A: Sorry, but no. You'll have to make your own arrangements to attend.
Q: I won a VIP Pass but can't come to the event? Can I still win?
A: You need to attend the event to win the crown, but if you have a VIP Pass and can't come on the day, you can still win a prize. Email us at the address on your pass with your winner's number (printed on the pass) and we'll enter you into a prize draw.
Q: Is there an age limit to play the game?
A: No, but if you are under the age of 12, you must obtain permission from a parent/guardian before playing.
Q: I can't get the Ludlow's Folly puzzles to appear on screen. What's wrong?
A: Make sure you have Flash 6 installed on your computer. It's a free download. Just follow the BBC's easy to follow Webwise guide to Flash if you need to know more.
Q: How do I use the messageboard?
A: To use the messageboard, you need to sign up if you haven't already. This is easy and takes seconds (okay, maybe a couple of minutes, but it's painless). If you've signed up to other BBC services such as DNA and H2G2 you should be able to use your login details for the messageboards too.
Q: Any rules or etiquette about discussing clues on the messageboard?
A: Feel free to share clues with other players. As many of the puzzles are spread far and wide around the country, bear in mind that if you help out players with a clue near to you, they might come to your aid with a puzzle in their part of the country at a later date.
However, in accordance with standard BBC messageboard rules, you will not be permitted to swap personal contact details with other players or make arrangements to meet other players using the messageboard. Posts that attempt to do either of these will be deleted by the moderators. Sorry, but your safety is our number one priority, and you can't be too careful in this day and age. There are demons out there...
