Joss Whedon recently went online to share information on the forthcoming series - what he called “"inevitable lies and misdirections about next season” - all of which should be taken with a pinch of salt. Among the promises: “Everything Buffy says, though it will SOUND perfectly normal, will be misspelled” and “All monsters, perils and/or problems will be resolved through angry finger-pointing and prayer”. Joss concluded: “Apart from that, everything pretty much status quo - same stuff you've seen before - in fact, most of the ep’s will be clip shows or cleverly concealed reruns”. The truth is that Joss will be taking more of a backseat next series, after an incredibly hectic schedule last year working on “Angel” and “Buffy”. He’s currently only likely to direct three episodes himself “so I can be MORE involved in the ep’s I don't shoot”.

Joss also paid tribute to Sir Alec Guinness: “Just read about Sir Alec Guinness dying. I'm really sad to hear that. My favorite of all the Sirs, the best and most subtle actor the Brits ever gave to the movies. ‘Tunes of Glory’, ‘Bridge on the River Kwai’, ‘Kind Hearts and Coronets’, ’The Horse's Mouth’... He was the man. Well, he lived long and did well, can't ask for more, except being made a Sir which none of us can ask for anyway thanks to our pesky republic”.

Joss was the subject of an interview in the London Evening Standard earlier this week, which likened him to Bill Gates. Joss revealed his influences: “comic books and science fiction, the 'Dune' books, James Clavell… Monty Python is embarrassingly important to me”, and defended the show against an allegation that the show promoted violence in school playgrounds: "There haven't been a lot of tae-kwon-do murders across America, although there has been a bit of violence. I am very specific about the kids shooting guns or truly imitable violent behaviour, but I think the show is morally centred.”

The animated science film 'Titan AE' opened in UK cinemas recently. Joss was one of five writers credited on the film, which is a mix of traditional 2D and computer generated 3D animation. Sadly the film didn’t quite live up to expectations when it was released in the US, leading to the closure of Fox’s fledgling animation division.

David Boreanaz has taken legal action against the driver of a car that ran into his 1999 Mercedes Benz in Los Angeles last August. David is suing for “physical, mental, and emotional pain, anguish, and suffering”.

'BtVS' and the Harry Potter books have caused an upsurge of interest in witchcraft, according to the The Pagan Federation, which claims it is receiving a hundred enquiries a month from young fans. Read the whole report at BBC News Online - - - - -
