Joss talks Buffy future

Joss Whedon and Sarah Michelle Gellar The creator of Buffy and Angel took time out to answer fans' questions in a live chat on AOL last week.

Amongst the subjects Joss spoke about were the latest episodes of Angel, crossover potential between the two Buffyverse shows, and the future of Buffy.

"Everybody knows Sarah's contract is up," he replied to a question on whether there'd be more Buffy after season seven. "It's very possible that after seven years she might be a bit sleepy. If that happens, there have been discussions about what permutations the show might take on."

"It won't be a watered-down version of Buffy," he promised, adding, "The one thing I have learned in TV is expect everything."

Joss also explained how he saw the difference between Buffy and its spin-off Angel. Asked by one fan which of the two shows was more complicated to write, he said:

"Buffy is hard because it is completely grounded in human existence. Every episode has to be about what it feels like to go through a certain period in your life... Angel is not like that. It has become a noirish melodrama of action. We can tell stories in itself."

Disappointingly, there was sad news about the prospect of an Angel musical episode. "David and Charisma have informed me they know people who can kill me," divulged Joss. "So probably not anytime soon."
