Buffy News    07 October 2002
Blood, Text and Fears

Giles The University of East Anglia have released further details of their upcoming Buffy conference, which takes place on 19-20th October 2002.

According to the UAE website, the event "Seeks to address the diversity of ways in which the series has permeated popular and academic discourse and cultural contexts alike."

Papers to be presented include Unaired Pilot or Bad Quarto: Textual Problems in Buffy and Shakespeare in an Internet Age, Playing with Dracula: Joss Whedon’s Creative Adaptation of the Vampire Genre and "You hold your gun like a sissy girl" – Firearms and Anxious Masculinity in BtVS.

You don't need to be an academic to attend, but it should be stressed that the conference is not a fan convention; none of the show's stars will be attending, and costumes are not encouraged. You could probably get away with something in tweed though...

More details can be found at the UEA website.
