Andrew Heath was killed when a fire ripped through his home in Warndon, Worcester, during the early hours of Wednesday 14 December 2011.
Andrew Heath died from injuries sustained during the blaze
The 52-year-old died from injuries sustained during the blaze, which was started in a wheelie bin in the porch outside his front door in Chedworth Close. It quickly spread to his first floor maisonette flat.
The evening before the fire, Andrew had spent time with the neighbours who lived in the flat below him – Clive and Susan Dayus. He had walked to the chip shop in Cranham Drive with Clive and had eaten his dinner with them before going back to his flat at around 9pm.
It is thought he spent the rest of the evening at home. But just before 4am, emergency services received a 999 call from Andrew reporting there was a fire at his flat. Before crews could get there, the fire had taken hold, leaving him with no way of escaping.
Andrew, who was adopted as a baby, leaves behind his adopted parents and sister. He came out as gay aged 18 and had lived in Worcester for many years. His family and friends have been left devastated by his death.
Police do not know why Andrew's flat would have been targeted. He was considered very generous by friends and was known to lend people money if they needed it.
• A number of people were seen or heard in the area that night. They include a person who was in the area riding a bike, a man walking a small black dog, as well as other people who have yet to come forward. Were you in the vicinity of Chedworth Close that night? If you are one of these people or know who they might be, you need to get in touch.
• The way the wheelie bin was positioned in Andrew’s porch suggests this was a targeted attack. Why would someone want to harm him?
• Police are keen to know about Andrew’s life, including his friends and contacts. Did he meet anyone recently? Did he fall out with someone who might have had a grudge?
• There is a £10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person/people responsible.
