Shopmobility opening hours for Christmas eve

In a pioneering move for our area, Coventry's Shopmobility scheme offered a late-night shopping service in the city this year.

The scheme provides free powered and unpowered wheelchairs and scooters for those with permanent or temporary limited mobility.

Christmas closures

We have contact all the Shopmobility schemes in out area - Coventry, Bedworth, Nuneaton and Stratford - for details of their Christmas arrangements.

Coventry - will be closed from 2pm Christmas eve. Normal hours resume on Saturday 28 December except it will be closed New Year's Day.

Bedworth - will be closed from Christmas eve. Normal hours resume on Wednesday 2 January.

Nuneaton - no details are confirmed as yet. Please call on 024 7637 5151 for up-to-date information.

Stratford - will be closed from 1pm Christmas eve. Normal hours resume on Friday 29 December except it will be closed New Year's Day.
The disabled shopping day and our late night shopping hours are about encouraging families to take advantage of free parking and come shopping in the city centre with their disabled relatives.

Shopmobility services manager Geoff Allen said: "The disabled shopping day and our late-night shopping hours are about encouraging families to take advantage of free parking and come shopping in the city centre with their disabled relatives.

"If people have never used the service before they can register when they arrive, which only takes five minute and take a scooter out straight away."

The Shopmobility team in Coventry also held a disabled shopping Sunday event on 1 December, when they extended their normal Sunday opening times by an extra hour to 10am-4pm.


Coventry Shopmobility details

Coventry's Shopmobility Unit is based on the ground floor of the Barracks car park. It offers people will mobility difficulties the chance to borrow a wheelchair or scooter to help them shop around the city centre.

First time users are welcome to drop into the unit and can register to use the equipment provided they carry ID, but pre booking is recommended to ensure that the equipment required is available. To book call them on 024 7683 2020.

Use of the Shopmobility service is free. It is situated on the ground floor of the Barracks car park behind British Home Stores.

Car parking for orange badge holders is situated next to the unit and is free for shoppers on Sundays and after 6pm on Wednesdays.





Late-night shopping

Shopmobility in Coventry has decided for the first time this year to stay open for late-night shopping Wednesdays in December to encourage families to shop with disabled relatives.
