Warwick Arts Centre has provided us with some great nights out and some passionate reviews for the website over the last year.
With their new bookings for spring, 2003 is proving just as exciting at the University of Warwick venue.
Experiments galore
| | | The red shoes in action with Kneehigh Theatre Co
|
Being a bit of a performance art fan, I was delighted to see visual-artist Franko B back on the bill this spring.
His sell-out performance last summer sparked controversial debates on the website and on BBC WM, and his new show, Still Life, also sold-out.
I was equally pleased to see Kneehigh Theatre were booked to bring their award-winning production of The Red Shoes to Coventry.
I saw this witty, macabre and skilful show when it was in London last year and have raved about it ever since. I have come seriously close to taking up clog dancing since seeing it, too...
To follow this with Forced Entertainment, a company with a reputation approaching the greats of performance theatre, shows Warwick Art Centre is really committed to experimental theatre this spring.
Playing up

For more traditional tastes, the centre is following the Christmas success of Alan Ayckbourn's The Boy Who Fell into a Book, with the acclaimed playwright's new thriller.
The play is called Snake in the Grass and it stars Susie Blake (Noises Off, Victoria Wood As Seen on TV).
Barrie Rutter's Northern Broadsides are also returning to the art centre with an Elizabethan double-bill of Shakespeare's Henry V and Thomas Heywood's A Woman Killed with Kindness.
The cast includes Richard Standing (Doctors, Coronation Street) and Andy Hockley, who entertained audiences at Christmas as Widow Twankie in the Belgrade's pantomime Aladdin.
Comedy nights

|
On the comedy front, Warwick Arts Centre has an impressive line-up to start 2003.
Some of the big names to look forward to include Julian Clary, Ross Noble and Marion and Geoff.
The stand-up selection didn't end there, as the centre also booked the hilarious young Daniel Kitson; the Perrier 2000 winner Rich Hall (as his alter ego Otis Lee Crenshaw) and Mark Thomas.
