 | | Band preview by Victoria Minett of the BBC Coventry website team.
Many years ago, when starting as a cub reporter, my nemesis was any battle of the bands competition.
In the mid-late 90s, they were almost always populated by oh-so-serious Radiohead/Blur clones who, in Spinal Tap style, whacked the amps up to 11 and hoped noise would cover the lack of talent displayed while mashing endless cover versions.
Every so often, however, there was a diamond in the dust and - sad to say - Stratford four-piece Antihero were not among them. At first, that is.
After that first time I saw them - and the appalling review I gave them afterwards - I, reluctantly, went to see them again.
And again, and again until, one day, I realised that Antihero are among the most talented bands I have ever seen and deserve to have their name in lights and nubile young assistants to hand them red and yellow M&Ms at will.
Antihero are set to be massive for they are magnificent, filled with verve, genius and a wicked sense of wit and humour that sets them apart from their contemporaries and you can see for yourself when they support Reuben at the Colly on 31 January.
The band comprises the implausibly tall vocal/lyrics master 'Pistol' Pete Hurley, bass-thing and speaker-jumper Davo McConville, drummer Jack Hamson and plank-spanker Marcus Ratcliff.

Among those Antihero have appeared with are Miss Black America on a UK tour plus The Dawn Parade, Martin Grech, thisGIRL, and the likes - proving their calibre as emerging artists.
The band have also been championed by John Peel - an accolade indeed - and had a Peel session broadcast, and repeated, last year, and 2002 also saw the release of Rolling Stones T-Shirt, their debut single, after they signed up with Integrity, the same label as MBA.
Antihero's brand of rock/pop/punk and even a little bit of R&B is unmissable and, as they make strides towards megastardom and leave us all behind, you should make a special effort to catch them at the Colly.
Oh, and the bill's headliners Reuben, who have been championed by Hundred Reasons and Vex Red, are also destined for big things and, though I haven't seen them myself, I am assured that live they live up to all their promise.
Reuben and Antihero play at Coventry's Colosseum on Friday, 31 Jan from 10pm.
