Kenilworth has had a fascinating history since the site was first used for a castle 50 years after the Norman conquest.
Since then it has seen extensive re-building as well as damaging sieges and dramatic royal events.
Its owners have included Henry III, Simon de Montfort, Henry V and the Dudley family.
But it’s the visitors that make Kenilworth’s history really exciting. Elizabeth I was a regular visitor and Henry VIII enjoyed great feasts here. Edward II had a slightly less fond relationship with the castle as he was briefly imprisoned there before his execution.
The castle has been owned by English Heritage since 1938, who open it to the public all year.
