Tina Tarrant is a self-taught painter and sculptor, based in North Warwickshire, but with an international appeal, having been offered opportunities in Berlin, New York and Los Angeles.

She takes her inspiration from the European art masters and says she aims to constantly visit European galleries, particularly in Rome.

She said: "I respect all art, but my greatest influences are Caravaggio, Waterhouse, Richard Dadd, Dali, Von Stuck and Frank Frazetta."

Masterful inspiration

Reflecting this versatility, Tina's work is a compilation of many different styles of fine art and figurative sculpture and modem and commercial styles.

She said: "I would like to think my style incorporates a little from all my favourite master painters. [For example] Myart projects a macabre concept that penetrates the psychological arcane side of the human psyche."

She goes on to add an unashamed appetite for success, saying: "My ambition is to paint a masterpiece and become a master painter."

Entering the mind

Tina shows she is also not afraid to delve into the human mind, as many of her paintings involve surreal or psychological references. She also tackles social and biblical themes such as the seven deadly sins, the elements and seasons.

On the dark side

Tina is also a writer, who chooses equally dark subjects for her books. Her second book is a partnership with celebrity astrologer Maria Killoran and the themes are love, sex and the darker side of the Zodiac.

The book contains Tina's illustrations and is co-written, creating: "a discerning, emotive and comically dry composition of the 12 astrological signs."

Tina is currently compiling her third book, which delves even further into the shadows, to tackle death, cults and religions.

No reservations

Tina also has a deep interest in the indigenous North American tribes, some of whom she visited in reservations for her painting research.

She has created a pair of maps depicting the tribes in the different states across the USA and has painted a number of related portraits and scenes.

Facing portraits

One of Tina's favourite projects is painting portraits. She says: "...portraits are of my choosing in discovering a more subconscious, intense side to my oblivious subjects."
