More Than Two Tones

A music exhibition at the Herbert Art Gallery and Museum in Coventry is showing that there’s more to the city than 2-Tone.

More Than Two Tones opened on Saturday, 3 October in Gallery 4 of the venue and includes rare memorabilia and new interviews and film footage.

At the exhibition, you will be able to see discs, stage clothing, lyrics, instruments and other memorabilia from the likes of Hazel O’Connor, The Specials, The Enemy and The Primitives.

Impact around the world

Martin Roberts, Senior Curator at the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum said: “An exhibition celebrating the music of Coventry is long overdue. Artists from the city have had an amazing impact around the world and it's astounding to see the successes and achievements that these artists have had.

“The Herbert is really proud to have the opportunity to display the exciting array of items and artefacts that have been collected, some of which have come from the artists themselves. We are sure that people from Coventry will take pride in their city and its music."

Stars of the future

As well as featuring the musical names which are already known, such as Vince Hill, Lieutenant Pigeon and Panjabi MC, the exhibition also plans to highlight some of the possible stars of the future.

The museum’s café will be showcasing some of the talent the city has to offer in Acoustic Sundays, which begins on Sunday, 15 November 2009. These free concerts will introduce some of the performers who are playing in and around the city today.

There will also be talks by members of the music industry in the Aspiring Musicians Panel Discussion. From the management to the musicians – they will try to cover every angle and help those wanting to get into the music industry.

Coventry sound

Local music historian and writer Pete Chambers will also be talking about the city’s musical heritage in Searching for the Coventry Sound.
