Reubens Cane:Andy Beglin - Lead Vocals Dave Medforth - Keyboards/ Backing Vocals Paul Bratby - Guitar Mark Ward - Guitar Rich Heneghan - Bass Guitar/ Backing Vocals Ciaran Corkerry - Drums Martin Eaton - Lyricist/Co-Writer Reubens Cane may be a fairly new name on the Coventry music scene, but some of the band members won’t be strangers. Many of them are, and were, part of other bands on the circuit, but they recently came together to produce music under the name of Reubens Cane. We caught up with the band and asked them a few questions about how they got together: How did you all meet?"Dave and Mark were on a music course together at Tile Hill (now City College), through which they met Andy, who was friends with another person on the course. "We played in a couple of different bands, before starting work on what would later become Reubens Cane. We knew Rich from around the local music scene, and we were told he was interested in playing bass for us. We clicked after one rehearsal and the roots were starting to set. ![]() Our Band of the Month for June "We were still pretty much an acoustic band at this point, however. Then the proverbial grapevine provided another little bit of information that pointed us towards Paul. We hadn't previously thought about having two guitarists, but Paul and Mark's styles are quite different and they compliment each other. The hardest part was finding a drummer. "Rich had been in a band with Ciaran previously and said he'd 'have a word', so to speak. Truth be told, it was pretty unanimous that we wanted him in the band. Ciaran is a busy lad, though. So tying him down was rather difficult. But, after a few rehearsals and a couple of gigs, everything just seemed to fit. So, here we are." Where did the name come from?"Andy says it 'came to him in a dream'. Now, if anyone else said that to me, I'd probably laugh. But Andy is an odd sort of fellow; and that's why we love him. We just generally leave him to it." How would you describe your music?"I bet most people can sum up their sound(s) in just a few words, huh? Well... it seems that we can't. I don't know, really. There's a feel-good vibe about a lot of the stuff we do, but other tracks have a edgier side to them. I think a lot of the stuff is accessible - and yes, I've consciously chose that word over commercial. I guess it's a bit poppy in places, but overall I think we're starting to get a good sound." What are your hopes and plans for 2009?"We're hoping to keep as busy as possible. We don't want to let things get stale. We will keep concentrating on new material and gigging regularly. “It's a tough one really. It's all about finding the right balance, isn't it? We should be back in the studio with James soon, too, so hopefully we'll have a couple of new tracks to put online. I think we're all looking forward to some summer gigs though.” To find out more about Reubens Cane, visit their MySpace page by clicking on the link below: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external websites How to get featured?BBC Coventry & Warwickshire's Band of the Month feature aims to showcase the best local musical talent.
