Meet Genelle Aldred
Find out more about one of BBC Coventry & Warwickshire's weather presenters...
Genelle Aldred was born in Birmingham and spent her first 12-years moving around the country because of her father’s job as a minister before settling back down in Birmingham.
She said: “I’ve been to seven different schools and that teaches you how to make friends quickly and how to speak up for yourself.”
After leaving school, she decided that the conventional route of A-levels wasn’t for her and spent five years working in various jobs - including check-in at Heathrow airport and giving couples advice about wedding gift lists.
Genelle then returned to further education and did an Access course before going onto higher education.
Work placement at BBC Midlands Today
Whilst Genelle was doing her MA in Broadcast Journalism at Staffordshire University she went to BBC Midlands Today on work placement. She applied for a job in the newsroom putting the news onto the web and began her BBC career.

“People have asked if I always wanted to be a Weather Presenter and I hadn’t planned on it at all. It’s just one of those great things where I was at the right place at the right time. The MET office training was intensive, but being British, I’ve always had an interest in the weather and now it’s my job.”
Genelle enjoys socialising with friends and family, shopping, reading and sewing. She also pretends to like the gym, but, the reality is they sent her a letter asking why she hasn’t been there in a few months.
Getting to know BBC Coventry & Warwickshire
Before starting her new job as our weather presenter, Genelle came to the studios to have a look around and get to know everyone.
We took this opportunity to ask Genelle a few questions about her new role at the station and also followed her around with a camera!

Genelle said: "It's a really nice atmosphere, I've found everyone really welcoming and friendly. It's nice to meet the people your going to be speaking to everyday.
"My favourite place in Coventry and Warwickshire, if I have to choose one because there are lots of lovely places, is Leamington Spa - the Royal Pump Room gardens are especially gorgeous."
We also asked Genelle what she is most looking forward to. She said: "I'm looking forward to giving people the most accurate weather story we can. Besides that I think it is going to be lots of fun working with the breakfast team here because they're all fab!"
