A magnificent lion dancing to the sound of hundreds of firecrackers will start the celebrations in the Lower Precinct at 11am. BBC Coventry & Warwickshire's Vic Minett will be on air from 1-4pm bringing you a flavour of the event.

2007 is the year of the pig. Those born in the year of the pig are said to be chivalrous, gallant and strong.

The celebrations will feature lion dancing, traditional Chinese music, dance and martial arts, mask artistry, acrobatics and Chinese weapon demonstrations. There will also be food, stalls, competitions and more.

Margaret Tse, of the Coventry Chinese Community Association, said: “The Chinese New Year celebrations are of special significance to Coventry’s Chinese community but it is a wonderful chance for everyone to get together and enjoy themselves."

The event is completely free and there's also free parking available at Lower Precinct, West Orchards and Barracks.
