Sphinx and Town crash out of FA Youth Cup

Coventry Sphinx’s FA Youth Cup dream came to an end at home to Nottingham Forest while Rugby town also bowed out in the first round.

Coventry Sphinx’s brave youth side fought hard against FA Premier Academy outfit Nottingham Forest at Sphinx Drive in the first round proper of the FA Youth Cup, but it wasn’t enough as they went down 2-0.

The visitors struck in either half with the first coming from England Under-17 international James Reid.

Sphinx, who had won four matches to get this far in the competition, carved out a few chances themselves. But any hopes of forcing the tie into extra time were dashed 10 minutes from the end when James Hook slotted home Forest’s second.

After the game, watched by a bumper crowd of 400-plus, BBC Coventry & Warwickshire’s Geoff Foster spoke to Coventry Sphinx youth coach John Woodward.
