Budapest calling

Leamington band Budapest were one of the first bands featured on BBC Coventry & Warwickshire's new local music show Sounds.

Budapest have been together for seven years, releasing two albums and enjoying a large following in several countries around the world.

They've sold a few records in the USA and even The Philippines, but it's in Spain where Budapest have been enjoying the most success.

The band have had several Spanish tours and have a large and growing fan base in the country, where they share a label with Babyshambles and Hope Of The States - they have even appeared on the Spanish version of Top of the Pops.

In The Philippines a big band on a major label has covered one of their tracks, gaining them a posse of new Filipino fans.

Frontman John Garrison is delighted with Budapest's global success:

"If someone had told me that my music is going to be heard that far away, five or six years ago, I'd be chuffed."

Second album Head Towards The Dawn was self-funded and saw John remortgaging his house to get the money together to record it. They describe the album as having "glorious, heartfelt lyrics and melodies with a cinematic sound."
