Planned Godiva appearance

Desmond Dekker's death comes just a few days after it was announced that was due to headline the reggae tent at the 2006 Godiva Festival in Coventry.

Mick Emerson from Godiva Festival organisers CV One says a replacement act will be found:

"It's very sad that he's died... He wasn't the only act, so there's still a lineup, but we do need to find a headliner and we are going to be working as hard as we can to do that."

Dekker's last concert was at Leeds Metropolitan University on 11 May and he was due to tour Europe this summer.

His songs had a major influence on some of Coventry's two-tone bands.
