The Godiva Festival The 2006 Godiva Festival takes place at Memorial Park in Coventry from 14-16 July. The event will be headlined by Mercury Rev, with appearances from The Cooper Temple Clause, Blackbud, Desmond Dekker and local chart-toppers Nizlopi also scheduled. 126 bands and singers entered the G Factor competition, with twenty bands chosen to play in four auditions to try and win a slot on the Godiva bill. The eight bands to qualify the play at Godiva are; Fiori, Hobo Exile Hotel, 7th Wave, The Great Blind Degree, Death By Miss Adventure, What About Cube?, Trailer and Decatone. Nuneaton's glam rock sleaze merchants have a blend of dirty riffs, big harmonies, blues freakouts and pop melodies. The band have reached the regional finals on the Emergenza Battle of the Bands competition. Hobo Exile Hotel have been a fixture on the Warwickshire music scene for several years. The Nuneaton band bridge the gap between Muse and Radiohead with their loud, stirring, fragile and intense songs. 7th Wave

Incredibly, 7th Wave's G Factor heat at the Jailhouse was their first ever gig. The Coventry group blend Hip Hop, Soul and Dance and originally formed as a four-piece for a one off gig at a night called No Rock Tonight. Danny Scott and DJ Fury ran the night, and the two of them along with guitarist Chris and vocalist Holly put on such a good show that it was decided to form a full band. Adding bass, synthesizer and drums, the now seven-piece band began to write and recorded a demo which they entered into the G Factor competition. - Pete Prokopiw - Drums

The Great Blind Degree

Leamington's The Great Blind Degree are an indie band who incorporate elements of electro and funk into their sound. They use subtle guitars, samples and keyboard along with two and three part harmony vocals. The band have spent the last few months converting a garage into their own music studio. They gig regularly in Warwickshire and London, supporting the likes of The Wonderstuff, and last year they released The Reginold Sons EP. Coventry's Death By Miss Adventure play what can be described as psychadelic progressive rock. The band formed in 2005 out of the band Four Kings. In 2003 Four Kings were the first British Band to play at Athfest in Ahens, Georgia featuring over 500 bands and sponsored by Michael Stipe of REM. Lineup - Andy Beglin - Vocals

Trailer are a rock band who began gigging in September 2004 and are inspired by dance music, atmospherics and great tunes.
