Meet Mark Powlett

Mark Powlett was the winner of the BBC Talent competition for the early breakfast slot, but he doesn't have to get up early anymore! Find out about our new afternoon presenter...

Q:  What's your name?

A:  Mark Powlett

Q:  From?

A:  Stratford

Q:  Star Sign?

A:  Scorpio

Q:  Joined the Beeb in?

A:  2005

Q:  What has your career involved so far?

A:   I worked for the NFU in Stratford and IBM in Warwick for a few years before leaving to become an actor which I have been doing for about 12 years.  Appeared in all sorts of stuff but for the last few years somehow made a living from playing the policeman in a kids TV show called Brum and appearances based on that..

Q:  What does your job involve?

A: Presenting the afternoon show from 2-5pm  We will be featuring people from Coventry and Warwickshire, catching up with all the latest gossip, playing lots of good music and generally having fun. There is a game to take part in and we will even be trying to get you sent home early from work!

Q:  What do you like the most about BBC Coventry & Warwickshire?

A:  I like the fact that with the studios people can call, text and email and even stand outside the big window with requests - and that really has happened to me at 5.30 in the morning!

Q:  What's your favourite place in Coventry and Warwickshire?

A:  The Welcombe Hills in Stratford where I used to walk the dog when I was younger

Q:  Who's your favourite person?

A: All my family (or Sarah Beeny from Property Ladder. She is gorgeous, intelligent and can put up shelves!) Or any female newsreader.  I love that they dress up so prim and proper and always wonder how they act when not reading the news! Have I said too much??

Q:  What's your favourite hobby?

A:  When I was younger I never thought I would say this but…Gardening in my lovely back garden.  Or tennis if anyone fancies playing.

Q:  Your favourite food?

A:  Thai, or a good old Sunday roast.

Q:  Your favourite drink?

A:  Water

Q:  Favourite song?

A:  It changes on a daily basis. I love music and so when I play the song from my house at 6.20 each morning that’s normally my favourite for at least twenty four hours.

Q:  Favourite film?

A:  It’s a Wonderful Life or This is Spinal Tap

Q:  Give us a fascinating fact about yourself:

A:  My favorite song is Carly Simon and Nobody Does it Better. Every time I hear it I get shivers down my spine… For lots of reasons!
