BBC Open Tales has been in existence since the summer 2005. The BBC Schools Coordinators are working in Coventry and Warwickshire schools in partnership with Creative Partnerships Coventry, producing digital stories for Radio and Television.
|Africa Animation project|
So far the project has worked in eight Secondary and Primary schools producing films, animation, music videos and a Radio Drama that has been featured on both BBC Coventry and Warwickshire Radio and BBC Local TV.
Exciting new projects in the pipeline include filming a willow project at Edgewick Primary School with artist Tom Hare, filming sixty second Shakespeare at Lyng Hall School and working on an animation project with Bluecoat Secondary School.
St Mary & St Benedict Catholic School, Hillfields, Coventry
Year 6 students from St Mary & St Benedict's worked on new ways of interpreting the story of Macbeth and its themes
Working with Fergus Durrant and Chris Bradley, the class produced thought provoking radio and discussed themes like superstition and characterisation in the form of interviews.
Lyng Hall School, Blackberry Lane, Coventry
The subject of healthy eating was chosen by year 6 students at the school.
Students worked in four groups, with two camera crews, a radio and a web group. Pupils conducted a series of interviews with canteen staff in the school.
They worked very hard in hot conditions and a strict timetable and produced some fantastic results - including an animated title sequence in little under an hour with a professional animator.
Pearl Hyde Community Primary School, Dorchester Way, Coventry
Edgewick Community Primary School, Foleshill, Coventry
|Filming at Edgewick School|
Year 5 and 6 students from these two schools worked on an animation to tie in with the BBC Africa Lives project. Year 5 created the story, stage and models, whilst year 6 produced the sound and the animation itself.
The pupils worked with Bambadinka in African Drumming Workshops, Chris Bradley in Film Making Workshops and Andy Guthrie in Sound Engineering Workshops.
Dartmouth School, Coventry
Pupils from this Special School worked with Rap Artist Perry Devonish to produce a Coventry Rap with lyrics based on the city and Dartmouth School.
The young people were also helped by John Humphreys to make a music video.
