Brian
Smith and his wife were no strangers to Cornwall when they moved
to St Keyne eight months ago.
"For
many years we would holiday in Cornwall during the winter months
which was wonderful," smiles Brian. "We decided we had
to move down here and discovered a wonderful, busy village."
That
village was St Keyne, a few miles away from Liskeard and a stone's
throw away from the world famous St Keyne Well.
A
well there is in the west country,
And a clearer one never was seen
There is not a wife in the west country
But has heard of the well of St. Keyne.

Early
records show the village consisted of ten or so farms and a cluster
of small cottages, with its church on high ground and lanes leading
to the river crossings in the valleys. Its old mill in the valley
of the East Looe River was still working until 1966, but it is now
a tourist attraction of Paul Corin's Magnificent Musical Machines.

The
village has grown over the years to become a very active community.
"I
have been very impressed by the amount of work that goes on particularly
with the social club and the village hall," says Brian.
"Anything
you want to do it usually happens in the village, residents are
very welcoming. Just looking through the village magazine 'The Informer',
it is always packed with events."
When
Brian saw how much was going on in the village he decided the one
thing it needed was its own website.
"I've
always been interested in computers and when I came to the village
there was not a website. I just thought it would be a good idea
to have a St Keyne website," explains Brian. "
"I
bought the domain name which only cost £9.99 for the two years.
It is early days, when it comes to getting information and photos,
but I have had an excellent response from local people."

The
website was only launched a few weeks ago and it has had around
400 hits so far which pleases Brian.
"We
have got a village photo album and I am trying to get more pictures
on there in the near future," says Brian.
"I
have been given some photos of the past carnivals but I think there
must be lots of excellent pictures which villagers have so I hope
more will come in. I would also like it to be an area where villagers
will come for quotes. I think it is important that we try to use
local businesses when we can."
The
St Keyne website is growing all the time. Why not pay it a visit
and see Brian's hard work.
