City of Lights goes down river
City of Light parade
Christmas Lights
This year's City of Lights parade was crafted on the theme of ''Down River'. Artists and children from around the county created lanterns and light sculptures and paraded them through the streets of Truro on Tuesday evening.

FACTS

+City of Lights is now being organised by a consortium of organisations who are Kernow Education Arts Partnerships, Creative Partnerships, the Works, Hall for Cornwall, ACT, Truro City Council and Truro Chamber of Commerce and also bringing in new partners to the event including Golowan Festival, The Eden Project and Falmouth College of Arts.

The theme of 'Down River', was selected to reflect Truro's position at the head of the river and the trips, outings, missions and voyages that have set out from there.

Among the unique designs were things that float on the river, things that swim under the water and things that drape their branches into the flow. The crowd cheered and clapped as the spectacular creations paraded past.

Now in its 9th year the City of Lights parade was given it's own special night. PC Dave Harris explains: "For the last couple of years we have felt that City of Lights has outgrown late-night shopping and needed to be an event on its own. So in the interests of safety for everyone we moved it to a separate night." And what a success it was.

Nine primary schools were involved in making the lanterns. Both Tregolls and Kea Schools made large scale lanterns. Bosvigo, Archbishop Benson, Treyew, St Marys, Truro, St Mary's, Falmouth, Probus, Chacewater. Along with Penair, Richard Lander, Penrice, Brannel, Poltair and the Roseland secondary schools.

As well as the schools, a team of inspirational artists worked extremely hard behind the scenes to help create the fantastic parade of light.

The Route
The route began at the Old City Hospital Car Park then moved into Kenwyn Street, Little Castle Street, River Street, St Nicholas Street, Boscawen Street, Green Street finished on Lemon Quay.
