| The
old Town Hall is now the Euphoria Nightclub |
Once you
leave the church, take a right turn up Church Street. On your right is
the nightclub Euphoria, once the Market House. The original one was built
in 1802 and in the 1830s a larger market was erected.
Following
severe storms in 1864, a new building was provided by John Francis Basset,
the squire of Tehidy, and this opened in 1867.
At the time
it housed the Town Hall, Magistrates' Rooms, a Public Hall and Assembly
Rooms.

| Basset
Coat Of Arms |
If you look
closely you will see the Basset family coat-of-arms in the stonework.
At the turn
of the last century an upper storey was added, known as St George's Hall;
this later became the Scala Cinema.
If you now
look to your left you will see Tyack's Hotel. This was built in 1780 by
Philip Vincent. The main section of the hotel was originally called the
King's Head. This indicated that at the time it was the most important
local inn or hotel.

Hotel today |
Around 1900
local man William Tyack purchased the inn and the family held the licence
for nearly 100 years, changing the name to the Tyack's Hotel.
