Fiddler On The Roof
Songs including 'If I Were A Rich Man,' 'Matchmaker,' 'Miracle of Miracles,' and 'Sunrise Sunset' will be ringing out in Helston later this month. It's the latest production by Helston Methodist Church Drama Group. The story is set in Russia in 1905.
In the small village of Anatevka on the eve of the Russian Revolution, where family tradition is still strong, people are faced with having to leave their homes.
When it was first staged in Broadway in 1964, the show ran for a record 3,242 performances. Helston is aiming for a more modest six, at the Epworth Hall from 27th to 31st October.
Topol as Tevye in the classic film
Topol famously played the leading role of Tevye, a performance preserved in a classic film. Helston's answer to Topol is Anthony Richards, supported by Esther Benney as his wife Golde.
The group says they have welcomed many new faces for the production, as well as some familiar ones. The production is directed by Gary Hunt and choreographed by Anita Smuda.
The performers are promising to make you laugh and cry with a charming tale and the musical's irresistible songs with music by Jerry Bock and lyrics by Sheldon Harnick.
The show will be on at Helston's Epworth Hall from 27th to 31st October at 7.30pm with a matinee on the 31st at 2.30pm.
Tickets are available from Heathercraft Fabrics, Coinagehall Street in Helston or by ringing 01326 568936.
