People FeaturesYou are in: Cornwall > People > People Features > Green Students On Film ![]() Green Students On FilmStudents from Cape Cornwall School in St Just have been learning how to be greener from some of West Cornwall's older residents. The results have been documented in two films "Traditions to Transition" and "Transition Curriculum". The environmental films were directed by a local documentary maker Barbara Santi, who was was also working with the 'Plan-iT Earth' Environmental Education Project and Awen Productions. ![]() Students recording past memories In 'Traditions to Transition' the two generations were brought together and young people were encouraged to think about the past when trades such as blacksmithing would have been common. The film shows youngsters learning the skills and hearing from local members of Age Concern such as Doreen Bennet. She helped to teach about being more thrifty and told the younger people that many years ago things had to be reused and not just thrown away. BBC Cornwall's Denis Nightingale spoke to the people involved in the project. You can listen to the interview by clicking on the link below. Help playing audio/video Doreen says "I've been helping to teach them that we had nothing during the war and that we made do with what we had. I still don't like spending money now". ![]() Capturing old traditions on film The second film 'Transition Curriculum', looks at Plan-iT Earth, which is an environmental organisation based in West Cornwall. It shows staff working in educational settings with year seven students at Cape Cornwall School. The films have been on a tour of Penwith so more people have the chance to see what can be learnt from the past to help them be more sustainable in the future.
