Faith FeaturesYou are in: Cornwall > Faith > Faith Features > Dor Kemmyn Walk ![]() Dor Kemmyn WalkA vision of building an inter faith building for everyone in Cornwall took a significant step forwards recently. More than fifty people went on a pilgrimage along St Michael's Way publicising Dor Kemmyn - the Cornish for 'Common Ground'. The idea is to create a place of peace, harmony and prayer where everyone is welcome. The pilgrimage took place around some of the most beautiful parts of West Cornwall. ![]() Walkers climb the cliffs There were prayers from many beliefs on the beach at Carbis Bay where a senior Tibetan monk - Llama Samten - blessed everyone before they set off. Richard Hurst from Helston wore a T-shirt with the words Dor Kemmyn on it, proclaiming his support for the project. He calls himself an Anglican-Buddhist having been brought up in the Christian faith but has explored other religions: "I've found in Cornwall that people are more tolerant of other religions and beliefs than anywhere else that I've lived. What tends to be the problem is if you go into a chapel or a mosque or wherever you tend to be blinkered into that belief, whereas I think this concept is multi faith, that anyone with or without faith can meet there." She says she enjoyed the walk because of the feelings it brought to her: "It was advertised in Church and I thought that would be good, together with people of other beliefs, to walk in peace and harmony with people who are like minded. It was just what I expected in the beautiful countryside, can life get better?" The committee of volunteers are currently looking at sites where Dor Kemmyn could be built, or developed from an existing building. As well as prayer and worship space, it is hoped the centre will be used as an education resource. BBC Cornwall's Denis Nightingale went along to talk to people on the walk.
