Cornish singer leaps to fame in Slovenia
Jessica Sweetman an unknown jazz singer from South East Cornwall has shot to fame in central europe. The twenty year old was unknown until her single was chosen for a mobile phone advert in Slovenia.
20 year old Jessica from Seaton, who normally sings in local pubs and clubs in Cornwall and Devon, and spends her days working behind a cosmetics counter in a local department store, says her new found fame has completely taken her by surprise. She says the first she new about her popularity in Slovenia was when she received an e mail from a man called Igor saying he loved her song, and wanted to know if he could buy it.
It was then that she discovered that her song was being played on every national radio and television station in Slovenia, following it's use in a mobile phone advertising campaign.
Jessica working in her day job
Jessica had sent the song 'Angel Mine' to a firm that provides library music in the entertainment industry. From there it was picked up by the mobile phone company who chose it for their commercial.
Once the advert went out on air the phone company was besieged by callers wanting to find out who the distinctive voice belonged to.
Jessica's voice has been compared to Katie Melua, Norah Jones and Duffy, and although she admits to being flattered by those compliments, she says "I'm happy to be the first Jessica Sweetman".
Since she recorded Angel Mine, Jessica's been working on a number of original songs written by her father Mark Sweetman, now she's just waiting for a record company to hear them.
