Just a handful of the many Elvis' in Par during the 2008 attempt

It's Now or Never

In 2008 Elvis fans donned their wigs and jumpsuits to take part in a record attempt for the Precious Lives Appeal. Sadly they just missed out on breaking the world record for the most Elvis lookalikes in one place, but now the challenge returns!

Well-ah-bless my soul, Elvis fans were left at the Heartbreak Hotel last August after just missing out on beating a world record in August 2009.

But like Elvis himself did at many times in his career, the Presley fans are bouncing back with another attempt to beat the world record one year on.

The Ship Inn at Par will once again become Cornwall's Graceland as Elvis fans and ETA's (Elvis Tribute Acts to you and me) come together for one last bash at the record attempt. The current world record stands at 147.

The landlady of the Ship Inn at Par near St Austell, Pauline Giles, is one of those behind the August Bank Holiday Monday record attempt, involving as many 'Presleys' as possible.

You do not have to be a professional impersonator, you do however, need to be dressed as Elvis from one of his films or stage shows.

Popping up your collar on the day will not be enough for you to be counted!

After making £1200 for Precious Lives last year the organisers are hoping for another great day.

Elvis meets Elvis!

It's not just about jumpsuits and side burns. Elvis had many different looks during his career; the loudpink and gold jackets of the rock and roll years, the suits of the movie decade that was the '60s and the resurgence of Elvis' career as the King of the Vegas strip.

The fun gets underway on Monday 31 August from midday. The record attempt is at 2pm.

BBC Cornwall's own anorak Matt Shepherd will be there to take pictures for the website, and take part in the record attempt. Popular entertainers and Elvis fans Johnny Cowling and Tory from Play it Cool are taking part too.
