Stithians Show 2009

Cornwall's biggest one day show returns on Monday 13 July 2009. Stithians Show is one of the oldest one day events in the country. More than 20,000 people attend the one day event each year. Look back at past galleries and see this year's details.

Established in 1834, The Stithians Show has been welcoming thousands of people each year ever since.

It has been held continuously since 1834 (except for three years during the first world war, and five years during the second, and in 2001 due to the nation-wide outbreak of foot & mouth disease.)

Stithians Show is very much a local affair. The St Stythians Band starts the event with the opening ceremony. The band's members perform in the Bandstand throughout the day and join with the choirs for the evening concert performance.

The concert this year begins at 8pm in the Domestic Marquee on the Showground. It will feature the City of Truro Male Voice Choir with St Stythians Silver Band.

The Show introduced a 'Taste of Cornwall' in 2002. It has proved to be a very popular marquee ever since, and a market place for both the exhibitors and the visiting public.

For youngsters and the young-at-heart there will be a fairground. And for those seeking nostalgia there are always plenty of classic cars and steam engines on the site in Stithians.

BBC Radio Cornwall will be there on our PR stand, and the BBC Cornwall webteam will be capturing the action on camera.
