The Exhibition 'Face Off' showcases the work of Scottish artists Smug and Klingatron who have a collection of photorealistic spray can art. Glasgow-based, street artists Smug and Klingatron have travelled far from home to have their interesting spray-can-art exhibited in Truro's The Soup Gallery. Both artists have produced monochrome only pieces for the exhibition on canvas and a few skateboard decks. Although they only use a few colours the effect is stunning, the artists', Smug and Klingatron work in two different styles of spray-can art; photorealism and stencil layering. BBC Cornwall's James Miners went along to The Old Soup Gallery in Truro to speak to its owner and artist, Mark Polglase about the exhibition, named Face Off. Smug's photorealism pieces are achieved through layering and cutting in of colours which are he then blends in using a type of transparent paint over the top. All of his paintings are made with a spray can which demonstrates the skills involved when achieving such precise, photo-like images. When speaking about the photorealistic work of Smug, gallery owner Mark Polglase said: "It's something that you don't see very much of, it's quite a skill to have, it takes a lot work, a lot of years in development before you can exhibit". Klingatron produces his work through a series of precision cut stencils which he will spend hours creating only to be used once. With the level of depth that goes in to making his stencils, Klingatron can take well over 100 hours to produce a single piece. Talking about the impact the exhibition has had on Cornwall, Mark said: "It's nice to bring something down from two artists at the top of their game; it's nice for people to see down here, to inspire what can be done as far as street art is concerned. ![]() Mark Polglase from the gallery. "We're hoping to inspire people as well in Cornwall, to build a street art scene down here, there's no reason why we can't have the level of excellence of work being created elsewhere in the UK". The exhibition will be on show until June 28 at The Soup Gallery in Truro, after that, art lovers interested in the pieces can have a look on the gallery's website available below.
