Faith FeaturesYou are in: Cornwall > Faith > Faith Features > Sophie's Success ![]() Sophie's SuccessA Cornish teenager has become the youngest member ever of a Truro church parochial council. At 18-years-old Sophie Endacott joins the council at St. George's Church in Truro. Her father John has just been appointed the church's warden. Like many 18-year-olds Sophie Endacott is currently completing her A Levels in Cornwall. However Sophie has also achieved something very special. She has become a member of the St George's Church parochial council. Sophie's appointment makes her the youngest member of the council ever in the church's 150 year history and also one of the youngest in the Diocese. St George's Church in Truro has always been an important part of Sophie's life. When she was old enough Sophie went to Sunday School, which she then followed with Rainbows, Brownies and Guides. ![]() Sophie at St George's Church Sophie said: "I enjoy taking part in the ritual and ceremony of services at St. George's and being a member of the congregation. I was very nervous at first when asked to serve in church but now I find it to be a very rewarding experience." St George's Church also plays an important role in John Endacott's life as well. Sophie's father has been appointed as churchwarden. John is now an officer of the Bishop within the Church of England and is legally responsible for all the property and movable goods belonging to a parish church. Father Chris Epps is encouraged by the youthful addition of Sophie to the managing council of the church: "Sophie is proof that 'traditional' does not have to mean 'old'."
