Going for Gold

It appears that surf photographer and film-maker of the moment, Mickey Smith has become unstoppable in his quest to document the world's best surfers in some of the most perilous conditions. He has recently won an award for the most innovative film.

During the summer Mickey Smith picked up the accolade of The British Isles Surfing 'Hotshot photographer' award for the Photographer of the Year and most recently became the winner of the Most Innovative Film at the Cornwall Film Festival.

The hugely popular surf/skate/snowboard film event 'the Board Shorts' took place at The Sandsifter in Hayle during November 2008 and featured a series of short films and slide show.

Winning films were selected for the main screening by a panel – including Mark Kermode (from BBC Culture Show), and top surfers Alan Stokes and Eliot Dudley.

The award for the most innovative film went to Mickey for his film 'Relentless Revolution'.

The photography and film work for the film took him around the world documenting surfers Tom Lowe and Fergal Smith which appeared on the October issue of Carve Magazine.

The trio cross deserts on a mission to seek out the heaviest waves in the southern hemisphere and take UK surfing to the next level.

Mickey has also just got the cover of the prestigious Surfers Journals Winter 2008 issue.
