Jenna Dunstan hoping to do lots of recycling

Recycling Students

Imagine recycling just about everything for a whole week. That's the challenge that has been issued to a group of Falmouth students. But just how will they get on...

When Agents 4 Change organiser Zak Stanley approached our house with the 'Total Recycling Project' I was excited.

Last week we put out three bulging bin bags.  Now we've been told to cut the waste down to just half a bin bag. Can it be done? We're prepared to give it a go.

The main problem is packaging, there's so much of it! Some food is wrapped in several layers of packaging which is ridiculous.

For some reason a lot of the food that you get deals on in supermarkets, which appeal to students, is over packaged.

The problems that we will face this week are the same as we face every week but we will be trying extra hard to throw away absolutely nothing.

Esther O'Bearagh from Cornwall County Council has given us loads of ideas and helpful information.  We know we can call her if we get stuck.

We know we won't be able to recycle everything so we'll have to think of other ways to dispose of things like polyurethane pots.

I know, because my mum works in a primary school that schools are always looking for pots and other things they can put paint and glue in so we will be taking any pots we have to the nearest primary school to see if they can use them. Well that's one idea to get started with!

It's a difficult week to be an Agent4Change or an Eco Warrior as it's the last week of Uni  for four members of the house and getting all our work in has to take priority.

More from our students soon...
