Poor ticket sales meant there were insufficient funds to pay Deboer – owners of the Pink Galaxy Marquee - and without a venue it was impossible for the event to proceed. Dr Charles Moon, Chairman of Camellia MC Productions the charity behind Killiow 2008, said this morning that everyone involved was bitterly disappointed. “When it became clear we would not be able to use the Pink Galaxy the whole committee began making telephone calls searching for a replacement. We tried desperately but without any success and by 5pm yesterday we had to take the sensible option and cancel the event. ![]() Members of the Cornish choir “We are still trying to reorganise the planned Auction of Wishes and Dreams in the hope of raising some funds for our chosen charities and are already negotiating a possible venue.” But with true Cornish spirit the 260 members of the Camellia Symphony Chorus - made up of choristers from the length and breadth of the county especially for Killiow 2008 - will not disband but will continue to perform at charity concerts on the region... Hayley Westenra & Alfie Boe were due to be headlining the charity concerts in the grounds of the Killiow Country Estate, near Truro, which were also to feature the cream of local talent. Hayley WestenraThe infant school teacher who picked the six-year-old Hayley Westenra out of her class to take the lead singing part of 'Little Star' in the school Christmas play certainly knew what she was doing. ![]() Alfie Boe will be appearing After the performance the teacher took her bemused parents aside and informed them their daughter had perfect pitch. That was the start of a career that has seen the young singer perform with heroes like Andrea Bocelli, Jose Carreras and Bryn Terfel and to audiences including everyone from the Queen (three times in one week), to Tony Blair and George Bush. Alfie BoeAlfie Boe's first break came when Baz Luhrmann, after spending two years looking for one of the main leads for his controversial production of Puccini's 'La Boheme' approached Alfie for the role. His performance on Broadway led to him winning a Tony Award which sits comfortably next to his John McCormack Young Voice Award and Lyric Tenor of the World Audience Award. There have been many highlights in his career. Alfie has enjoyed two chart topping classical albums and now finds himself on the eve of releasing his third studio album.
