The former chairman of Penzance and Newlyn RFC says he will stand for election as the new president of the Cornish Pirates. Robin Turner resigned from his position earlier this week. It comes after Dicky Evans' shock resignation. Mr Turner says he still wants a joint stadium with Truro City to go ahead. He spoke to BBC Radio Cornwall's James Churchfield. A statement from the rugby team's Rod Coward, released on the Cornish Pirates website said: "This decision has been brought about by the unremitting attacks, both publicly and in private, on Dicky and the Cornish Pirates vision in general and their success, by current and former members and players of Penzance & Newlyn RFC. "What is reported in the media is merely the tip of the iceberg. He has had to spend the last few years in particular taking knives out of his back and now feels that enough is enough. On the Cornish Pirates website it was announced that Dicky Evans would honour all existing contracts for this current season and 2008-09 for players and also administration staff. The Pirates' members committee will meet as soon as possible to discuss the news. Rod Lyon is chairman of the away supporters club, the Press Gang.
