Meet Marcus Webb

I trained as an osteopath and naturopath qualifying in 1988. Since then I have worked to develop the concepts of integrated medicine by helping patients seek the best balance between alternative and conventional treatments.

Over the years I have met many fascinating people who have inspired me to continue when, as an alternative practitioner, you feel you are always on a somewhat up hill battle.  One such meeting was dinner with Professor Patrick Wall. Professor Wall was one of the founding fathers of modern pain medicine, having pioneered the developed the TENS machine.

Thanks to his open mindless I became enthralled with the natural management of pain syndromes using Western Medical Acupuncture. For the past 16 years I have used these techniques with great success as a adjunctive therapy along side osteopathy. What Professor Wall taught me was, no matter how qualified and eminent you may be, or think you are, you have to keep an open mind.

Marcus' book on herbal medicine was translated into Dutch and German as well as being sold in the UK and America through the Peoples Medical society.

As well as his regular phone-in for BBC radio Cornwall hosted by Tim Hubbard, Marcus is frequently called on to offer expert opinions on topical and controversial health and medical issues for other BBC radio stations.

"I like to think that those listening to our call in show enjoy the cases that present and keep an open enough mind to try some of the suggestions", explains Marcus.

A number of years ago Marcus moved from London to work along side his father-in-law; the renowned alternative medicine pioneer and Naturopath Jan de Vries, a regular voice on BBC Radio Cornwall over the years.

Now based in Troon, on Scotland’s West Coast, Marcus now commutes twice a month to London so he can continue to see his long-term patients while his daily clinical work is now based in Scotland.

Marcus is a member of the General Osteopathic Council, the General Council and register of Naturopaths and the British Medical Acupuncture Society. He holds Chartered status with the Institute of Biology and was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine.

With not much time for hobbies Marcus enjoys reading, good food and wine and driving his old Morgan when the Scottish weather allows! He is married to Maria and has three lively boys, Cameron, Jonathan and Oliver.

Listen and get involved in Marcus' monthly Alternative Medicine call-in show, on BBC Radio Cornwall, Sunday 11.00am-12.00am.
