About CornwallYou are in: Cornwall > About Cornwall > About Cornwall > Stithians Show 2007 ![]() Stithians Show 2007Stithians Show is one of the largest and oldest one day events in the country. BBC Radio Cornwall's Afternoon Show with Laurence Reed was broadcast live from the showground and the web team was out in force photographing the attractions. Established in 1834, The Stithians has been held continuously since then (except for three years during the first world war, and five years during the second, and in 2001 due to the nation-wide outbreak of foot & mouth disease.) Click on the link below to enjoy photos from this year's show: More than 20,000 people attend the one day event each year. Stithians Show is very much a local affair. The St Stythians Band starts the event with the opening ceremony. The band's members perform in the Bandstand throughout the day and join with the choirs for the evening concert performance. The Show introduced a 'Taste of Cornwall' in 2002. It proved to be a very popular marquee and marketplace for both the exhibitors and the visiting public. The stalls return again to offer an opportunity to see, and buy, many food related products which are produced locally. For youngsters and the young-at-heart there will be a fairground. And for those seeking nostalgia there are always plenty of classic cars and steam engines on the site in Stithians. The rare breeds stands always attract a huge crowd. The WI in Cornwall plays an active role in the success of the show. They attended for the first time in 2002. last updated: 17/07/07 SEE ALSOYou are in: Cornwall > About Cornwall > About Cornwall > Stithians Show 2007
