Cornwall's very own brand of sparkling wine has been recognised by a major international wine festival. Bob says; "At the 2005 International Wine Challenge there were 14 gold medals from around the world for sparkling wine. Thirteen were from Champagne, and the only one from anywhere else in the world at all, and that includes the rest of France, Spain, Australia, New Zealand, California, anywhere, was from here." BBC Cornwall's Simon Vincent went along to the vineyard to find out more. "We're now bottling some wine from 2006, which is the best vintage ever in the English wine industry," continues Bob. Based near Nanstallon, the Lindos are anxious to fly the flag for their county, naming their sparkling wine after the region, much like the wine-makers from the Champagne region of France. "They live in a wonderful region and they named their wine after it. Well, we live in a wonderful region, so we named our wine after our region. So our sparkling wine is called Cornwall. ![]() Ready for the shops "In the same way that we can't call ours 'champagne' they can't call theirs 'cornwall'." Not that Bob feels it's a contest... "We don't see ourselves as being in competition with anyone. We try and produce the best wine we can which we then market and promote. "The English wine industry is taking off, and for it be successful in the long term, there needs to be more than just a few of us." With plenty of other vineyards being planted across Cornwall and the rest of the country, it appears there is going to be plenty more cause for a celebration very soon. last updated: 21/06/07 SEE ALSOYou are in: Cornwall > About Cornwall > About Cornwall > Raise Your Glasses For Cornwall
