BBC Radio CornwallYou are in: Cornwall > Local Radio > BBC Radio Cornwall > Meet Emma Lloyd ![]() Meet Emma LloydEmma is the voice of the afternoons on BBC Radio Cornwall, with celebrity guests, features and people from Cornwall, books, Cornish food and the best music. When not on the radio, you're most likely to find Emma Lloyd tied up in knots with a rod in her hand... A keen, almost obsessive angler, Emma holds the competition record for Pollock in Cadgwith Cove, where she used to live. She says: "Cornwall has some of the best fishing in the world, and I'm determined to catch a double figure bass before I'm too old to go out to sea. I first started angling because I was a bit of a tomboy, and all the men in my family were fanatical about anything to do with the sea, so I just had to get involved!" "It's wonderful to enjoy Cornwall from such a different perspective from out at sea. I love the feeling of bobbing around on the water, no worries, not a care in the world, in fact, it's the only time I think that I'm actually quiet!" Besides fishing in her home town, Falmouth, her other hobbies include contorting into unnatural postures practicing Yoga and horse riding. A long time ago...In a past life Emma trod the boards in the West End: "I always wanted to be an actress, although at one point I was hoping to combine three careers, acting, archaeology and being a ballerina, but by the time I turned nine, I realised this wasn't going to work- digging in the mud would be hell for my tutu." Having appeared in Romeo and Juliet, working with the National Theatre, being an injured victim of an explosion in Casualty and a bad driver in Wild West with Dawn French, Emma decided to trade the big smoke for Cornwall. Starting off working with James Churchfield on the weekend breakfast programme, Emma went on to present the Evening programme and then her current slot on the Afternoon show. Challenge Em…"I have had so many different experiences working at BBC Radio Cornwall. My highlights have to be going out on the Lizard lifeboat and being allowed to steer it; meeting the amazing parents whose children use the Children's Hospice South West- I've never cried on air before, but their strength and inspiration was so humbling. "I've also been upstaged by a turkey who once gobbled his way through my delivery of the shipping forecast one morning and I also nearly took out a group of schoolchildren when I did my show on ice at Eden…as you can tell life is never dull." Favourite Things…Emma's favourite film is Some Like It Hot and The Shining. When it comes to food it's pasta, pasta, pasta: "I love Italian food- easy to prepare but tastes gorgeous- I make a killer lasagne- meaning it's fantastic, not that it'll kill you if you eat it" Emma's music taste is vast " I grew up on a diet of Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Queen and T-Rex. I am a bit of a rock chick, but I am a huge fan of '60s music and soul, jazz and I adore Frank Sinatra. Nobody can sing like Frank. I am so lucky that I get to play music for a living, it's such an important part of my life." Click on the link below to email Emma:
