John Dyer, along with his wife Joanne Short and daughter Martha-Lilly will be living on the island and painting in the gardens, harbour and wild bluebell slopes all week. Staying in a waterside property on the edge of the harbour the artists will be well placed to soak up the atmosphere, colours and life from this enchanting place.

Both of the artists have a well established relationship with the Mount having completed a residency there with Lord St. Levan four years ago - but this will be the first time they will have stayed on the island. The gardens will be at their peek of colour as they burst forth in the May sunshine which will suit both John and Jo's unmistakable paintings. John Dyer is one of Cornwall's best-known and most successful artists. He has a large global following and is the 'Painter in Residence' for the Eden Project. His work is firmly at the forefront of contemporary art with original paintings in the permanent collections of The Falmouth Art Gallery, The National Trust at Glendurgan Garden, The Tresco Estate and The Eden Project.

Joanne Short, one of Cornwall's most established artists, has a truly unique style and construction to her paintings. They bring a strong but gentle view of her world and focus on the beauty, pattern and life that is found in the landscape. Featured in the TV series 'The Painted Garden' she confidently commits paint to her canvas 'en plein-air'. Alan Titchmarsh described their last set of paintings of the Mount in this way: "To find one inspirational painter in a family is good fortune; to find two is unique. John Dyer and Jo Short are the only husband and wife team I can think of whose paintings I love in equal measure. Not in that 'quite nice' sort of way, but in a way that makes me want to buy them and hang them in my rooms."

And Kate Waddon the Island Manager adds: "The paintings of the Mount that John and Jo have done in the past are great: they really capture the lively, colourful spirit of the place. We're all really looking forward to working with them again, and seeing what they come up with this year!" The John Dyer Gallery has already established a firm working relationship with the island with a new 'John Dyer Gallery mini' established for this season in the island retail area which stocks art products from the artists which includes stationery, Art mugs, limited editions and a unique Art Puzzle of the Mount. An exhibition of the artists original paintings will be held at the end of the year for invited guests. |
